Fish Filter

No matter how small your fish tank, you need a fish filter, if you want happy fish. There are small ones to fit the tiniest of fish tanks.

Because I’ve reared fish in tanks for many years, I will tell you that you do not need to spend a fortune on those fancy filters and pumps. What is more important is that the filter is a good fit for your tank, and that you change the filter often. I change the filter sponge every week when I do a partial change of the fish water, as described in my blog _________.  Pictured here are 2 good and cheap filters that I use. The first fish filter is the one that most aquarium shops use for their own fish… enough said. You need to get an air-pump to go with it, though. Just ask the fish shop uncle to recommend a good and cheap pump. You also need some stones at the bottom of this filter to make it sink, so just give the fish shop uncle your most beaming smile, and ask if he would give you a few stones FOC to act as weight. And lastly, you need to get an air-tube, which you can also ask the fish shop uncle to recommend. Don’t buy the black color tube, the white color one looks better when submerged in water. Buy a longer length than what you need. You won’t regret it.

The second type of fish filter  has a waterfall effect, which I particularly like. You need to buy those that come with a adjustable-degree ‘latch’ (see picture) at the side, and you turn this ‘latch’ so the filter hangs well onto the side of the tank. If you can’t find one with an adjustable-degree ‘latch’, then you can find whatever material (like a vanguard sheet or cardboard) you have at home and you prop up the filter. For my home, I use a felt glider and it serves the purpose well.

Also pictured here is the fish filter sponge that I buy. No particular reason why I buy this brand, I guess it is only because I have a bigger waterfall filter for my tortoise pond, and this size of filter sponge fits my tortoise waterfall filter well. You can buy any brand that you fancy.

Again, you need to get a dedicated scissors to cut your filter sponge. Trust me, you don’t want to struggle with the filter sponge. It only tears in one direction, and sometimes it can be a pain to tear the filter sponge a correct size.

我养鱼已经很多年了，所以我可以告诉你： 你不必花很多钱买那些花式的鱼缸过滤器和鱼缸水泵。比花式和昂贵更重要的是找一个尺寸适合你的鱼缸的，并且你不停地跟着时间表更换鱼缸过滤器里的棉。每当我换部分鱼水时（看——————————），我一定会一起更换鱼缸过滤器里的棉。这两张照片是我在家使用的两个又好又便宜的鱼缸过滤器。第一个是大多数鱼店老板自己使用的……不用说，一定是好料。如果你使用这个， 你需要买一个鱼缸空气泵。你可以叫鱼店叔叔推荐一个又好又便宜的鱼缸泵。你也需要几粒小石头放进这种鱼缸过滤器，使它能沉入鱼缸底部。那几粒小石头你不用买啦，跟鱼店叔叔你， 他应该会说🆗。 给他你最灿烂的笑容！！！  最后，你需要买一条白色的空气管 （叫鱼店叔叔推荐）。我不喜欢黑色的空气管，应为黑色在水中看起来太明显。购买空气管，我建议你买比你需要的长一尺， 你不会后悔， 听我的。

第二种类型的鱼缸过滤器是这个有瀑布效果的，我特别喜欢！购买这款式的鱼缸过滤器，最好找侧面带有可调节度“闩锁”的。 这可以转动“闩锁”的鱼缸过滤器会帮你把鱼缸过滤器很好地适应悬挂在鱼缸侧面。如果你找不到侧面带有可调节度“闩锁”的瀑布效果鱼缸过滤器，你可以在家找到任何材料（如先锋纸或纸板）支撑鱼缸过滤器。

另外， 这张照片是我买的鱼缸过滤的绵。我买这品牌并没有什么特别的理由， 只因为我家有一个乌龟池， 乌龟池的瀑布过滤器刚好适合这品牌尺寸的棉。正如我所说， 你可以买任何你喜欢的品牌的棉。

你也需要一个专用的剪刀来切割你的鱼缸过滤器的绵。相信我，你不想与鱼缸过滤器的绵挣扎。绵虽然软，  不过应为它只能撕裂一个方向，要撕正确的尺寸不容易。
