Plants in your aquarium are great additions, but don’t overdo the plants. When you buy plants, they are normally already tied to small pieces of driftwoods. These pieces of driftwood have unique shapes and textures, so it’s pretty art as is. You really don’t need decorations that look like a sunken ship, or a broken shoe (what are people thinking?! 😂).
I find that whenever I have plants in my tank, there will be 2 ‘phenomenons’: (1) your fish will give birth to baby fishes, and (2) if your plant ‘came with’ snails, pretty soon you will have a colony of snails. As I said in my earlier blog _________, when you buy plants from the aquarium shop, all it needs is a quick rinse under the tap water. Then you can pop it into your tank. If there are fishes are already living inside your tank, do a partial water change (more on that later), and you can put in 1 plant. Let the fishes get used to it, and one month later, you can do another water change, and pop another plant inside. Easy does it.

我发现我每次为我的鱼缸增添植物后，一定会出现两种’现象’：（一）我的鱼会生很多鱼宝宝，（二）如果我刚买的植物‘送’蜗牛（蜗牛是住在植物上，跟随我回家的，哈哈），很快的，鱼缸会有蜗牛群。正如我在——————————————的博客提到，你买了植物后，回家只需要用自来水快快冲洗植物， 就可以将它放入鱼缸里。如果鱼缸里已经有养鱼，你需要先换三分之一的水（稍后博客——————————更多详情），才把植物放进鱼缸里， 让鱼适应新鱼缸植物，然后一个月后，你可以重复换水，再放入另一种植物。慢慢来。
Because plants are living, you need to give them light. So buy a slim looking white light LED clip-on or overhang light (pictured here are the ones that I use), and turn it on for at least 3 hours in the evening. You can turn it off when you sleep. I don’t know what is different about the water nowadays, but previously I could leave the LED lamp on for the whole night, but nowadays, I need to turn it off, otherwise light (and natural light) makes the water turn green! Nope, we don’t want that! 😅 I have also tried submersible LED lights, but my fish told me that they don’t like red/blue/green/white light blinking in their face. So forget about submersible light! Haha.

Now about those baby fish. You don’t have to do anything to get the mama fish to breed. Either they do or they don’t. But in my experience, it is those 1-inch fishes that will breed alot! Listen: It’s true that big fish will eat small fish. But ordinary people like us do not have time to catch out the baby fry and hold them separately in the quarantine acrylic holder. Just leave the fish fry alone and they will hide under the plants. I used to catch the fish fry out and feed them separately, but I find they die faster if we interfere. So leave them be ok?
关于鱼宝宝。。。有时一次过，鱼妈妈会生十多只， 二十多只鱼宝宝。 你不需要做任何事情， 鱼妈妈也会繁殖。根据我的经验，那些一英寸的鱼繁殖最多！大鱼吃小鱼， 这是真实。 但是像我们普通人， 没有时间抓鱼宝宝， 将它们分别放在‘小隔离鱼缸’。鱼苗很聪明， 会躲在鱼缸植物下面， 你别去管它！ 我曾经把鱼宝宝抓出来， 分开喂食，但是不懂是不是应为我干涉，我发现它们会死得更快。听我的， 就别干涉。只要鱼宝宝有地方躲起来， 它们会自己照顾自己。
Snails, on the other hand, you really need to be diligent about catching them out. If you leave them be, 2 snails will quickly become 8 snails, and pretty soon, you will have 50 snails! They don’t actually harm the fish, so if you don’t mind, you can just leave them be. But when I have a colony of 50 snails, I will catch them out and pass them to the fish shop uncle. He and I are ‘buddies’, partly because I never haggle with him over price. LOL! If you don’t fancy catching snails with a fish net, you can try this snail trapper (pictured here), which I bought from the fish shop. Quite an interesting gadget, but be mentally prepared there will be alot of snails trapped inside. Yikes! You need to have a strong stomach, or you need to really like snails 🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌. LOL! You have to use this contraption over a few days to successfully catch most of the snails out. But then, what will you do with the snails? Hmmm…. just go and ask your neighbourhood aquarium shop uncle if he will help you with them, before you start catching your snails out. Or you and I, we can become real-life friends, and I’ll introduce you to my fish shop uncle, and you can ask him to help you!
P.S.: I know there is a liquid called “Snail Killer” that you can pour into your tank water, and all the snails will mysteriously disappear. Do they dissolve?! 😱 That sounds bad. Don’t use that! It can’t be good Feng Shui to dissolve snails.
蜗牛就不同。 你真的要勤劳‘赶上’它们， 应为它们繁殖得特别快！ 两只蜗牛会很快变成八只蜗牛，很快的， 你就会有五十只， 一百只蜗牛！有一段时期， 我家养的蜗牛比鱼还多呢！ 哈哈哈😆！ 不过， 蜗牛实际上并不会伤害鱼，所以如果你不介意的话，你可以别管它们。至于我， 一旦鱼缸里繁殖到蜗牛有超过五十只，我会把它们捞起来，把它们传给鱼店叔叔， 他帮我养。鱼店叔叔和我呀， 我们是’伙伴’！ 👬 原因是应为我从来没有和他讨价还价。是真的！ 我觉得鱼店叔叔很会做我的生意， 而且老板人真的很有耐心， 整天让我问他有的，没的。是别人可能已经把我赶走了！哈哈哈！我开玩笑的。
如果你不喜欢用鱼网慢慢捕捉鱼缸里的五十只， 一百只蜗牛，你可以试试我从鱼店买来的这种‘蜗牛捕捉器’（看照片）。这有趣的‘小工具’会让你轻轻松松把很多鱼缸里的蜗牛困在里面。唯一问题是你要做好心理准备，你一次可以困住二十只， 三十只蜗牛。还有， 你必须连续花几天的时间才可以成功捕获鱼缸里大部分蜗牛。你如何处理蜗牛呢？嗯， 说真的， 我也不知道。。。不如你在捞蜗牛出来之前， 先问问你附近的鱼店叔叔可以帮助你吗？ 改天， 你我成为现实生活中的朋友，我会带你介绍我的鱼店叔叔，你可以请他帮助你！
P.S .: 我知道市场有卖一种叫“蜗牛杀手”的液体剂，只要倒入鱼缸里，蜗牛都会神秘地消失。这怎么可能？ 难道他们溶解？！听起来很残忍！！！ 😱 不要使用这“蜗牛杀手”的液体剂！溶解蜗牛不可能是好风水， 我们别这么做！ 👌
