This is the third type of incense holder that I use. It is a more traditional one, and I bought it a very long time ago, before I learnt how to use the other types. I put this incense pot in front of my Buddha statue, and as it becomes quite messy with ashes, you need to clean it frequently. My MIL and my hubby only offer 1 incense stick every time they pray, but I offer 3 incense sticks. Again, I stress that in my opinion, it is not about how many incense sticks you offer, or what types of incense fragrance you use. What is important is that you make time to pray, and you believe in the power of prayers! Some safety precautions about this type of incense holder: you need to put it in a well-ventilated (but not windy) area, and as I said, the ashes tend to fall all over, so don’t put it near highly combustible materials. In my opinion, you need to wait till at least half of the incense stick has burnt down before you leave home. Just in case the incense stick falls over when burning (whether it will or not depends on how compactly you press the commercial packet ‘ashes’ in the holder’). Be safe!
