The people in the new department started gossiping about her. How dare she become a Manager when she had no proper qualifications and no relevant experience? But she was lucky! The Boss in the new department stuck to his decision and said she would be Manager. I met up with her. She was miserable. She lamented that nobody held her hand on Day 1. I told her: “But you are a Manager!!! You should learn the ropes by yourself!!!” When she went for meetings, she did not understand what was going on. Of course you wouldn’t. Which newbie would? You are in a new department, doing a new role. Learn! “I did not ask for this responsibility. They know I have not studied for my degree, and they expect me to do this high-level work.” A degree is nothing! It’s just a piece of paper. Look at me! I’m the best example of ‘why did my mum waste $100,000 sending me overseas to get that qualification’?  But my friend would hear nothing of my advice. She blamed that they gave her the job even though they knew she had no paper qualifications. With that sort of mentality, her job naturally became a huge burden to her.
