Clearing Your Incense Holder

For many years, I bagged the ash from the incense holders and chucked it down the bin. Then I came across an article written by a monk (I have forgotten what his name is, sorry!) in the Chinese newspaper, and he explained that the ash is something that was left behind after our praying sessions. Therefore the ash is ‘holy’ too, and we should treat it as such. He recommended that we return the ash to the ground, and it makes sense to me. My suggestion, though, is that you stir the ash into the soil. Unless you live in a huge bungalow with a huge garden, tipping the ash into our flower pot will result in ash flying everywhere when the wind blows!
